Motorcycle Flywheel Puller Fitment Guide: Matching Thread Sizes, Years and Models

The most common mistake with flywheel pullers is buying the wrong thread size. A mismatched puller will not thread in, and forcing it damages the flywheel. Here is how to match one correctly.

Step 1: Internal or External Thread?

  • Internal thread - the puller threads INTO the flywheel center (most common).
  • External thread - the puller threads ONTO the rotor (some models).

Step 2: Match the Thread Size

Common sizes include M27, M30, M36, M42, M45, M50 and more. The size is usually stamped in the service manual or on the flywheel itself.

Step 3: Left or Right Thread?

Some models use a left-hand thread - check before ordering. Using the wrong direction will jam the tool.

Step 4: Verify by Model and Year

Fitment changes between years. For example, a KTM 690 uses a different thread than older KTM two-strokes. Always quote the exact model and year when you order.

Bottom line: thread size, direction and model year - quote all three and you will get the right puller.
